Happy Halloween!

What better time to roll out the first official wave of my new Penguin Suits than on the day that cosplaying practically built - Halloween!

Oh! And did you catch that? These are official!

...according to me.

We Need More Batman!

...well... we really don't. There's a lot of Batman already.

Nevertheless, I wanted to put my own spin, if you will, on the Caped Crusader. I came up with this and slapped it on an Akira background to complete the intended mood.

Happy VILLAINtine's Day!

I'm probably not the only one who thinks that Batman has the best rogues gallery out there, but as awesome as the Bat's baddies may be... there are a few duds. For instance, the so-called masters of air, land, and sea: the Terrible Trio!

In my opinion, the word 'terrible' is dead on. I first came across these three on Batman: The Animated Series (as was the case with most Batman properties) and every time that iconic intro faded out and the Terrible Trio title card popped up, I audibly groaned.

But NOW, as an artist wanting to redesign Batman characters... What better challenge?

Vulture

Fox

Shark

These guys have been through several iterations. Sometimes they're just dudes in rubber masks, sometimes they're genetically altered animal people. For my version, I came up with this concept of them wearing these high tech holographic masks that basically give them the appearance of having animated animal heads. It may be a little dumb, but I think it's a fun idea, and besides, they were already a little dumb to begin with.

Purrental Guidance

If Hollywood is going to keep churning out these bad-guy-without-the-good-guy movies, then I think it's time to give Catwoman another chance.

The Chilling Sound of Your DOOOOOM

I've started giving my own take on the iconic Batman characters and thought that Mr. Freeze was a good choice for the next installment. Freeze is a giant heartless husk of a human so I decided to go the Darth Vader route a little bit and put him in a menacing robot suit. Plus, it does away with the snow globe helmet which, let's face it, Batman would totally be able to break.

Mr. Freeze

Oh, and since I've also been coming up with casting choices for these guys, I'm going to go ahead and give the part of Victor here to the great Doug Jones, the very talented man whose face Hollywood loves to put in a mask.

Happy VILLAINtine's Day!

Like most nerds fans, I do my fair share of dream casting. When it came such classic Batman villains as The Riddler and The Penguin, I always thought Richard Ayoade and Peter Dinklage would be good for the roles respectively. Unfortunately for me though, caricatures were never my strong suit. After getting frustrated over several failed attempts at depicting the actors as the two villains, I finally gave up and just drew the characters as... well... the characters.

Maybe just imagine them as voice actors.

Tweet Tweet On The Street!

So I just read that Aquaman has officially surpassed The Dark Knight in the box-office. Now I'm sure that profits aren't completely a fair judge of popularity, but in a sense, Aquaman is a more successful character than Batman.

This is the world we're living in.

This talk of superheroes topping other superheroes has got me thinking about the pantheon of caped crusaders out there and which one is my favorite. It isn't Aquaman. It isn't even Batman. No, the character that I love more than all of the sea kings and dark knights put together is none other than the Boy Wonder himself... Robin.

Robin
So yeah. He's not technically a superhero. He's a sidekick... but he's THE sidekick! A tech-savvy whiz kid who gets to tagalong with the most bad-a hero there is... freakin' Batman! I'm not sure why the most recent incarnations have him be so dark and broody. That would be a BLAST! Here's hoping that, as DC ventures further into this cinematic universe of theirs, someone decides to take a risk and give the Boy Wonder his time to shine.

Hey. It worked with Aquaman.

March of the Penguin Suits 2018

I've done the March of the Penguin Suits a few times before where I'll post a different Penguin Suit each day in the month of March. Well... that's not the case this time.

I've decided to give the little guys' look a slight tweak. Therefore, this smaller scale March of the Penguin Suits post is just to inaugurate what I've done. I'm calling it Penguin Suits version 3-point-Who Gives a Flip!

And, just for laughs, each penguin is cosplaying as another "famous" penguin. 100 Give-a-Flip points to whoever can name them all! I'm not messing around here, folks! Get to guessing!

Beast Mode

It's St. Patrick's Day and what better way to commemorate the occasion than with a little bloggin' o the green!

Here's a favorite character of mine from the DC Universe who may not necessarily be Irish, but he is, without a doubt... green. It's Beast Boy!

As fun as it was to draw each of these animals, I wanted them to share the same facial characteristics as my version of Beast Boy since, of course, they're supposed to be him in his many different forms but I don't really feel like I succeeded in this as intended. But hey, like I said... they were fun to draw.

Holy Animated Gif, Batman!!

I have absolutely no executive power whatsoever at Warner Bros. Studio... or anywhere else for that matter. Although a hobo did once refer to me as 'chief' ...but that's as close as I've come. If I did have any clout at the WB, my first order of business would be to get the company back into the Theatrical Shorts business. This would mean brand new Looney Tunes shorts, obviously, but I also think that DC's catalog of super heroes would make for some good 7-minute fun on the big screen. The folks at the WB could easily tack these shorts on each of the many DC Universe films that are about to hit the big screen, ensuring the perfect audience for such a venture! Alas, nothing of the sort exists. But I did slap together this cool and very unofficial animation of the Batman logo. It might not be theatrical... but it is short.

Super Tunes - Part Two

Here's some more of my Looney Tunes/Justice League mashups! I think the only thing I love more than mashups is just saying the word, mashup.

Mashup!

Tweety as Green Lantern  |  Sylvester as Sinestro
Marvin the Martian as Martian Manhunter  |  Michigan J. Frog as Aquaman
The Roadrunner as The Flash  |  Wile E. Coyote as Captain Cold

In case you missed it, here's Part One!

Super Tunes - Part One

This sort of thing has been done a few times before. I specifically remember some awesome Happy Meal toys from when I was a kid. However, this being Halloween, I thought it'd be fun to put my own subtle spin on everyone's favorite Looney Tunes in their super hero cosplay.

Bugs Bunny as Superman   |   Elmer Fudd as Lex Luthor

Daffy Duck as Batman   |   Porky Pig as Robin

Lola Bunny as Wonder Woman   |   Yosemite Sam as Ares

Stay Tooned for Part Two!

HOLY...!!! Sorry, Batman... I've Got Nothing.

Today has been officially declared as Batman Day! I'm not sure who the officials are that can declare such a thing, but they did, and so it is. Let the celebration of a fictitious man who dresses like a flying rodent commence!

This is in reference to a scene from the 1966 film, Batman: The Movie. In the film, Batman stumbles onto the bad guys' hideout in the back room of some disreputable seaside drinking joint. When he arrives, he notices that the hideout has been abandoned with a cartoonish bomb set to explode. Batman tries to get rid of the bomb, but... well... you get it.

Here's the scene.

I wish this clip played out just a minute or two longer. When Robin asks Batman why he would risk his life to save a bar full of "riffraff," Batman replies (in an Adam West fashion that this blog can not do justice), "They may be drinkers, Robin, but they're also human beings... and may be... salvaged. I HAD TO DO IT!"

That you did, Caped Crusader. That you did.

Happy Batman Day, Chums!
