Zeffer, Zoofus, & Bud

     Back when I made my Disneyland Smidgeons, I came up with these three little guys loosely based on Sleeping Beauty's Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. I liked them so much that I decided to give them each their own book.

The Old Man and the Thing

     I was thinking (as one often does) about how the physics would work in this world of co-living with tiny cartoons. Then I came up with this fun concept of a cranky little scavenger who collects both 'real' and 'toon' objects.

     Just the latest installment in me wishing that we shared the planet with a civilization of miniature cartoon characters.

I mean... Wouldn't that be sweet?!?

Little Men of Disneyland

     So great news! Disney actually commissioned me to mock up some of my Smidgeon characters for a Disneyland lineup!

Yeah. None of that was true. April Fools?

     But seriously... while we were at Disneyland recently I was inspired to knock a few more of these bad boys out. One good thing about being in a magical amusement park full of whimsical little details is that no one really blinks an eye when a guy gets down on the ground to take a closeup photo of (not to spoil the magic) ...absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, it was after our trip that I found out about the actual little man of Disneyland. It might have made for a fun photo-op with a smidgeon or two, but oh well. At least I enjoyed the churros.

     Now that I think about it, Disneyland would be a terrible place for tiny people to live. Despite the fact that it's home to a famous mouse, it's also full of cats!

Size Matters Not!

     Not long ago, I rolled out these little guys that I'm calling Smidgeons. They're basically tiny people that live in our seemingly gigantic world... but it's definitely NOT like The Littles or The Borrowers! Not even a little bit! 

Are you rolling your eyes?! It's not!! They're a completely different thing!

     Anyways, it's May the 4th! And since Star Wars Day is an actual thing now, I'm rolling out another one that's loosely inspired by that galaxy far, far away.

I mean... who really knows what The Littles are, anyways?

Meet The Smidgeons!

     On a couple of past occasions, I've toyed with this idea of placing tiny cartoon characters in a real environment. They used to be robots, but I guess I grew a little bored with that part of the idea so I decided to start over with the whole thing.

     I had talked about how difficult it was for me to come up with a name for these guys. I asked my wife for input and she instantly came up with "smidgeons." What can I say? She's the best. I also thought it'd be fun to imagine them as a series of children's books, and in doing so... also imagine that I was actually successful! Fun, right?
