It's The Twelve Days of Penguin Suits!

There are at least two things I can think of that make me...well, merry - the Christmas season and Penguin Suits. That's right! Penguin Suits!

Since it is that wonderful time of year, I thought I'd celebrate by decking the blogspot halls with a different penguin in holiday-themed duds for every day leading up to Christmas! After all, which would you rather have - a Partridge in a Pear Tree or a Penguin in a Wig and Pants?!? Exactly!

Stick around, folks!

Super Tunes - Part Two

Here's some more of my Looney Tunes/Justice League mashups! I think the only thing I love more than mashups is just saying the word, mashup.

Mashup!

Tweety as Green Lantern  |  Sylvester as Sinestro
Marvin the Martian as Martian Manhunter  |  Michigan J. Frog as Aquaman
The Roadrunner as The Flash  |  Wile E. Coyote as Captain Cold

In case you missed it, here's Part One!

The Franchise Awakens!

Last Thursday, the official title for the new Star Wars film was released, along with a new logo! I’m sure this same type of thing has already been made by several other people out there on the internet, but being a nerd with Photoshop, I had to just go ahead and make it for myself!

You can't have a J.J. Abrams movie without some... Flare!

So yeah! Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens! I’m not sure what that exactly means, but who cares? I’m in! Heck, I was already in! Judging from the level of excitement I’ve reached from just the unveiling of a mysterious title and brilliantly simple logo, I have a pretty good feeling that I’m going to physically shut down when they actually let us see some new Star Wars footage.

If anyone is looking for me on the day the first trailer is released, just listen. I’ll be the blubbery mess weeping tears of pure joy! This whole thing may turn out to be another prequels fiasco. I think that’s extremely unlikely, but whatever the case, for right now… it’s a great time to be a nerd!

Super Tunes - Part One

This sort of thing has been done a few times before. I specifically remember some awesome Happy Meal toys from when I was a kid. However, this being Halloween, I thought it'd be fun to put my own subtle spin on everyone's favorite Looney Tunes in their super hero cosplay.

Bugs Bunny as Superman   |   Elmer Fudd as Lex Luthor

Daffy Duck as Batman   |   Porky Pig as Robin

Lola Bunny as Wonder Woman   |   Yosemite Sam as Ares

Stay Tooned for Part Two!

Chococat

Lately, I've had this problem coming up with ideas of things I'd like to draw. Thinking it might help get me out of this little rut, I decided to just draw the first thing that popped into my head.

And so... Chococat!

Yaaaaaaaaaaa Hoo Hoo Hooeeeeeey!!

A film that I've always been a little bit partial to is 1995's A Goofy Movie. While it's not the best movie ever made, it's definitely not the worst either! There's a lot of overdramatic angst for a movie about Goofy, but I can't help but enjoy it EVERY time I watch. I think the songs in this film are some of the catchiest show tunes that have ever come from a Disney movie! Not only that, but there's something I like about the concept of a father-son road trip being a made into a musical. Comforting is probably how I'd best describe it. Despite its many uncomfortable moments (that Max is a real jerk!) I get a nice sense of comfort watching it.

So... yeah. There you go. My two-cents worth on A Goofy Movie. You're welcome, internet!

Guuuuhhhh-Hyuk!

Rebooting Ruxpin - Princess Erin

This is probably the biggest tweak I've given to any of the characters of my ongoing Teddy Ruxpin reboot! So Teddy Ruxpin purists BEWARE! ...Are there Teddy Ruxpin purists?

Prince Arin was, in my opinion, a little bland. Plus, much like my adolescence, I've always felt that the series was tremendously lacking in female presence. So I've rebooted said prince into a spunky warrior PRINCESS! Sort of a two birds, one stone situation.

Again, my apologies to all the die-hard Prince Arin fans out there. Take solace (while I lament) that  I have absolutely NO official clout on the subject of ANYTHING fandom.

...but seriously! Is there a Teddy Ruxpin fandom?!?

What Do You Think This Is, A Cartoon Show?!?

So I've noticed there's not a lot on this blog about the Disney Afternoon. This is odd, since the reason I ever wanted to start drawing in the first place was because of the awesome cartoons that the Disney Afternoon had to offer.

For anyone who may not know, the Disney Afternoon was a syndicated programming block of such great Disney shows as Gummi Bears, Talespin, Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, AND my all time favorite, DuckTales! When I was a kid, the end of school couldn't possibly come fast enough! Every day, my brothers and I would race home and plop down in front of the television for two full hours of animated bliss! Then, I'd pull out the ol' spiral notebook and get to work filling it with Disney-inspired doodles! I'm not sure when I was able to tackle such essentials as homework and eating, ...but I'm now an adult that made it through college, so I guess it worked itself out somehow.

I don't have any art to post this week, but I did recently get to review one of my favorite episodes of DuckTales over on the Disney Afternoon Forever website.

HOLY...!!! Sorry, Batman... I've Got Nothing.

Today has been officially declared as Batman Day! I'm not sure who the officials are that can declare such a thing, but they did, and so it is. Let the celebration of a fictitious man who dresses like a flying rodent commence!

This is in reference to a scene from the 1966 film, Batman: The Movie. In the film, Batman stumbles onto the bad guys' hideout in the back room of some disreputable seaside drinking joint. When he arrives, he notices that the hideout has been abandoned with a cartoonish bomb set to explode. Batman tries to get rid of the bomb, but... well... you get it.

Here's the scene.

I wish this clip played out just a minute or two longer. When Robin asks Batman why he would risk his life to save a bar full of "riffraff," Batman replies (in an Adam West fashion that this blog can not do justice), "They may be drinkers, Robin, but they're also human beings... and may be... salvaged. I HAD TO DO IT!"

That you did, Caped Crusader. That you did.

Happy Batman Day, Chums!

Disney Park Pals - Wave 2

Here's my second installment of Disney Park Meet and Greet characters, this time with the ever popular Queen Elsa!

Elsa is supposedly, as Mugato would say, "So HOT right now!" People just can't seem to get enough of her! At Walt Disney World, they had to move her and Anna from the appropriately themed Norway Pavilion in Epcot to a larger venue in Magic Kingdom. And even there, people will wait in line for HOURS to meet her!

And the merchandise! Oh my goodness, the merchandise! Good luck finding any of that stuff! I remember walking into toy stores right before Frozen hit theaters. There was Elsa and Anna memorabilia everywhere you looked! Not any more. Just a big empty space on the shelves where the coveted items probably only sat for about twenty minutes after being stocked.

Anyways, if you're like so many out there and have the blues from a lack of Elsa in your life, I might suggest getting a job... OR download my Elsa Park Pal above! After all, a random guy's fan art is an incredibly close second to a small plastic ice castle!

And you can quote me on that.

I Hate You Meeces To Pieces!

Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks
I think I talked before about how most of the famous characters from the Hanna-Barbera cartoons are voiced by actors doing impressions of other actors. In the case of Mr. Jinks here, supposedly Daws Butler was doing an impression of Marlon Brando while voicing the somewhat famous cat.

I, personally, don't hear it, but when I think of Marlon Brando, I think of the Godfather, and this was done before that. Maybe back then, this was how the world heard Don Corleone. Either way, its good stuff, as was all of Daws Butler's work, in my opinion.

I may be misquoting here, but I think voice actor Jim Cummings once remarked that a bad voice impression of someone works great as the voice of a brand new character. That's definitely true with Mr. Jinks.

Let's Dig Up THE ROAD!!!!

Here's some more characters from my daughter's favorite television show (at the moment), Peppa Pig, including the IMPOSSIBLY busy, Miss Rabbit, and the strong but delicate, Mr. Bull!

Miss Rabbit
Danny Dog
Suzy Sheep
Mr. Bull
I could say that I'm spending time drawing the characters of a show for preschoolers not because I really REALLY want to and enjoy it, but because my daughter demands it.

I could say that, but...

...

More MANLY MACHO DUDE drawings of Peppa Pig to come!!

EVERYONE Loves Peppa Pig!

Being the father of a toddler, you realize that there are a ton of children programs out there that are, well... NOT ANY GOOD! But rather than talk about those, lets talk about one of the good ones! Straight from across the pond, it's Peppa Pig

This is my daughter's favorite show at the moment. She actually claims that her name IS Peppa Pig, and any attempt to argue this fact has repeatedly proven futile. Anyways, I thought it'd be fun to draw the show's characters in the silly way that they appear in my head.

Peppa Pig
George
Mummy Pig
Daddy Pig
My wife and I were big fans of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood while growing up. One of the things we love about Peppa Pig is that it, like Mister Rogers, teaches children about everyday life without talking down or shouting at them. I'm also a firm believer that kids learn more from children's programming if the parents watch with them, and Peppa Pig, in our house at least, is entertaining for kids and parents alike!

Plus, my daughter will say random words with a british accent. What's not to love about that?!?
